NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dog-crazy Americans will soon be able to buy a pet-friendly car with a cushioned dog bed in the trunk, fitted with a built-in water bowl and fan and a ramp to help less agile dogs climb in.

With the help of a rescue dog named Sammy, Japanese car maker Honda Motor Co unveiled the pet friendly version of its Element utility vehicle at the New York Auto Show.

It features easy-wash seat covers, a fitted dog bed with restraints to keep Sammy safe in the event of a crash, and a paw logo on the side. Honda said the car would go on sale across the United States from the fall of this year.

Celebrities with Shiba Inus

In a roundabout sort of way*, I recently discovered that the baseball player Ichiro Suzuki has a Shiba Inu named Ikkyu!

*This came about as I was reading up on the World Baseball Classic finals between Japan and Korea, where Ichiro's tiebreaking, two-run single in the 10th gave Japan a 5-3 win over Korea, leading me to look up his player profile page on ESPN, and in my Google search, found his wikipedia page and learned of his Shiba Inu, which in turn, led to the article below about how Ichiro can talk to dogs... whew

"Ichiro married Yumiko Fukushima, a former TV announcer, on December 3, 1999 at a small church in Santa Monica, California. The couple have no children. They have a pet dog (Shiba Inu) named "Ikkyu", a combination of "Ichiro" and "Yumiko". A kanji letter, "yumi" is pronounced "kyu" as well." - Wikipedia

"He's got at least one dog, a Shiba Inu named Ikkyu that Ichiro supposedly consulted before signing his big contract. Ikkyu said "woof, woof, woof," which meant "stay, stay, stay" in Seattle to Ichiro. In an interview two years ago, Ichiro said he also has a golden retriever in Japan." - http://www.seattlepi.com/moore/325386_moore27.html

Funny, Maiya said "woof, woof, woof" to me the other day too, but I didn't quite understand what she was getting at.

Kelly Osbourne too has been spotted with a Shiba Inu puppy!
It's true that Shiba Inus need tons of exercise. Maiya loves going for walks and playing with other dogs. However, in every picture of Kelly Osbourne and her Shiba Inu, the puppy is being held in her arms... Makes for good celeb photos I guess.

The day we met Maiya

This is our Maiya at 6 weeks. Although her left ear was still floppy b/c of her young age, she was still as rambunctious as ever! A sign of things to come...

Hello and Welcome!

A big HELLO and welcome to our blog "Maiya the Shiba" :)

Maiya is 8 months old now and has been nothing but a blessing to us, and we absolutely love her. She is full of energy and spirit <--- the picture to the right was taken after our visit to the off-leash park, where she was running and rolling around in the mud!

We hope to be posting regularly here, with photos, videos, and comics that I will draw. Hope to see you again!
